DFW is a sea of suburbia and development, and it can be hard to escape urban life sometimes. But did you know there are some unpaved, natural areas tucked away throughout in the metroplex? This post will feature one of the most serene:
Meet Northshore Trail in Flower Mound along Lake Grapevine.
I have only mountain biked here, but you don’t have to have a bike to experience Northshore. The trail is open to foot traffic and dog walking as well! Just be sure to keep your furry friend on a leash for safety (foot and bike traffic share the same trail). This could also be a great place to have a picnic with friends overlooking Lake Grapevine. There are several parking areas available with tables and the occasional shade pavilion.
Winter is my favorite time to visit the trail. Not only is it cooler, but most of the Texas reptiles are in hibernation. And I would prefer to avoid the snakes and potential ‘gators, thank you very much.
If you would like like to bike on this trail but do not have a bike, consider renting from a local bicycle shop: Bicycles Plus in Flower Mound. This shop is close to the trail and they can recommend the proper bike for your experience level. You don’t get bonus points for crashing. So be sure to get off your bike and walk on the technical parts of the trail you aren’t confident about.
With over 20 miles of trail loops of varying difficulty levels, there is a place for all adventure seekers here. Whether you are visiting or live in the area, be sure to check out Northshore Trail. You can follow them on Instagram, Facebook, and DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association) for updates on trail closures and trail information.
