My All Electric Yard Maintenance Fleet

Moving from an apartment to a house can create a number of new expenses you didn’t have previously. One of those expenses is lawn care, whether it be purchasing equipment or hiring someone to do it for you.

If you have a house on a small lot (less than a half acre of mow-able area), I highly recommend you consider electric lawn equipment over gas powered.

Why do I recommend that? BECAUSE IT’S SO EASY.

My boyfriend travels for work constantly, so I am usually the one using the equipment the most. It’s light, easy to maneuver, safe to use, and straightforward to operate.

PROS TO ELECTRIC:

  1. You don’t have to pay for gasoline or have a gasoline supply on hand. And let’s face it, you’re already paying for electricity. So charge those batteries!
  2. Electric motors require almost no maintenance. Occasionally, blade sharpening is all you really need to do (other than regular cleaning).
  3. You don’t need to worry about oil changes to maintain engine health.
  4. Most electric mowers are lightweight and can be stored upright, ultimately saving you storage space.
  5. When the machine is lighter, it highly reduces ruts in the lawn from maneuvering the mower.
  6. Electric motors produce more torque than most gas engines.
  7. If used properly, it can complete the job for most 1/4 acre lots on a single charge.
  8. Batteries from the same line are interchangeable between equipment.
  9. The rapid charger will take the lawn-mower battery from dead to full in just under an hour.

CONS TO ELECTRIC:

  1. Mowing tall or wet grass requires more power from the battery and shortens its available cut-time. In another post, I will explain the best tricks and tips to get the most battery life out of your electric lawn mower. Stay tuned!
  2. Most electric mowers are made of plastic, not metal. If you have a clumsy or aggressive person using your equipment, the machine may be more susceptible to damage.

WHAT DO WE USE?

Because these items can become pricey quickly, we did not purchase all of the equipment at the same time. Below, I ranked what I would consider order of importance for those that want to purchase equipment in phases like we did.

THE GOODS

1) EGO Cordless Walk Behind Self Propelled Mower Kit (with battery)

2) Cordless Weed Wacker (with battery and charging station)

3) 110 MPH Cordless Leaf Blower (no battery or charger included)

4) Cordless Multi-head System Edger (no batter or charger)

We have one large battery/ charger for the mower. We also have one smaller battery and charger that works for the last three tools. So two batteries, a rapid charger, a standard charger, and four pieces of equipment. If I do a standard mow and maintain, I can service everything and use every tool on one charge. With more wild conditions, I may need to re-charge.

We used these for at least 1.5 years and have no regrets with the purchase. After each use, we immediately charge the batteries, rinse the equipment clean, fold ‘er up, and tuck it away in the corner. Easy peasy.

EGO is the brand in our home. But feel free to review and purchase other brands you may prefer! I strongly advise that whatever brand you choose to stick with that brand.

Have a different or same brand and want to share your experience? Send me a comment below and let me know what you think about it! Happy mowing and maintaining, folks!
